Matthew qualified from the University of Dundee with Commendation in 2020. He has had a longstanding interest in periodontology, having been involved with the British Society of Periodontology since dental school.

Alongside clinical practice, Matthew works as a Clinical Research Fellow at Bristol Dental School, where he is involved in clinical research with a particular interest in digital dentistry. He has presented his research at national and international conferences.

In 2026, Matthew was awarded an MSc in Periodontology from the University of Bristol with Distinction. He has also undertaken additional periodontal training and clinical observation, including time spent observing the postgraduate periodontology department at ACTA in Amsterdam.
